"I believe that any location is strategically important to us, any location which is under Ukrainian flag, wherever it is located. There are no centimeters of Ukrainian land which are not important to us; our people are everywhere, and it is our land and it must be under our control. Strategically speaking, for the Lyman group (soldiers working to retake Lyman), we have to cover their backs so everything is safe and so they can do their work."

"It was a night crossing. We were crossing the field which was flooded because the dam was blown up. Then, all the ways were flooded as a result of all the booby traps in this area. They (roads) were underwater. It's that kind of difficulties we had."

"What we saw was a destroyed village with no people. We found some civilians, some animals under constant fire. It was also quite difficult, we crossed and walked a long distance, being loaded (with equipment and supplies), in waist-deep water. We started early in the morning and arrived only at night. We found a place to settle down. We had to prepare a place for locating our unit, which followed us and entered after us. We came first as reconnaissance (intelligence) not a big group. That's what we saw."

STORYLINE:
Ukrainian servicemen on Monday evacuated injured comrades from the village of Shchurove who were participating in the counteroffensive in the Donetsk region.
At least four soldiers were injured in the area where the Ukrainians are trying to advance and retake Lyman and other cities in the Donbas.
They are mostly elderly or disabled, and were rescued when the Ukrainians entered into the area.
