The Women Behind Taw Win Thazin Rice Noodles in Rural Myanmar
This video tells the inspiring story of Maw Maw Hmwe and a group of women farmers in the Magway Region of Myanmar who transformed climate hardship into opportunity. Facing growing environmental challenges, they took bold steps to reshape their livelihoods.
After joining a women’s savings and credit group supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the group established the Taw Win Thazin rice noodle enterprise. By adding value to locally produced rice, they created new and sustainable sources of income. Maw Maw later expanded her efforts by opening her own food stall, further strengthening her family’s financial stability.
Through improved access to finance, technical training, and essential machinery, Maw Maw and other rural women are building resilience, strengthening local food systems, and demonstrating that women-led businesses can nourish both communities and hope — even in times of crisis.
