Road Trip #516 - LA-301 - Jean Lafitte Barataria Preserve
Louisiana Highway 301 runs along Bayou Barataria and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway between LA-45 and its dead-end at Bayou Villars. Prior to the construction of the high-rise Wagner Bridge to the Town of Jean Lafitte in 1976, LA-45 continued along this route for 1/2 mile to a swing bridge that crossed the bayou.
Bayou Barataria, which doubles as the Intracoastal Canal here, runs directly along the edge of this road. During the filming of this video, the water level was very high, and in several spots along the road, the water was actually over the roadway. Throughout most of the drive, water is visible right up to the road's edge.
