Fishermen under their umbrella, Association of Fishers and Lake Users of Uganda say they support the president’s directive, instructing the army to carry out operations to curb illegal fishing. According to Godfrey Ssenyonga, the association chairperson, operations on Lake Victoria had helped in increase fish sticks, leading to an increment in government revenue.
Addressing the media in Kampala, Ssenyonga said they would petition parliament, which is probing alleged alleged torture of fishermen.
