Tropilaelaps Mercedesae is a small parasitic Mite. Smaller than Varroa destructor mite with potentially much more damaging to honey bee colonies across europe and soon in your apiary!?!? I kid you not.!!! Its already spead across Georgia (europe) in one year
Maggie Gill from Phira Science has been away studying Topilaelaps in Asia and kindly agreed to share her alarming findings.
she will be here live to discuss this parasitising Mite that jumped species from Apis "Dorsata" to our Apis Melifera.
Research is limited but absolutely frightening.
Forget Small hive beetle, Asian and Giant Japanese Hornet, Tracheal mites and Varro Destructor mites this is the biggest single threat and it's really bad news! Almost every other invasive species that has appeared in a new place has never been eradicated and this will be one of those!
