Hello, my name is Carolyn Clark Seifried. I'm an Environmental Specialist for Dewberry and I want to talk with you today about the hazardous waste regulations. Very little has changed with the rules of managing hazardous waste until now. I will explain to you a little bit about the changes, which are referred to as the Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule. The rules were effective on May 30, 2017 for New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, as well as the states shown as purple. All other states are subject to the rules on July 1, 2018. The hazardous waste rules were changed to do the following: to reduce the cross referencing, to strengthen environmental protection by increasing required communication with local emergency responders, and changing hazardous waste container labeling. The hazardous waste markings or labels must now also include the hazard of the contents, which can be done by using a DOT hazard communication label, an OSHA hazard statement or pictogram, or an NFPA chemical hazard label. Another change has to do with the generator categories. The conditionally exempt small quantity generator category has been replaced with the very small quantity generator. And a few more changes include a requirement for small quantity generators to resubmit an EPA identification notification every four years, and a requirement for contingency plans to include a quick reference card. I hope you see from the information I've presented that it is important for anyone who generates hazardous waste to become familiar with the improved hazardous waste rules. Thank you for listening.
