Описание: The family of the city's most recent murder victim is speaking on camera for the first time.

A maintenance worker found Rosa Chatman's badly beaten body inside a College Hill Courts apartment last month.

Her family tells NewsChannel9 her family wishes someone had stepped in, before it was too late.

On April 16th, Talisa Stevenson's phone rang while she was getting ready for work.

"I looked at my phone and something told me, answer," said Stevenson.

That's when she learned, the 56-year-old mother and grandmother was dead.

"My mother hadn't called for about two days. That's not like my mother. If we don't see her, we're going to hear from her," said Stevenson.

Stevenson says Chatman moved into apartment 1312 about a year after her fiance passed away and that she knew no strangers.

A maintenance worker found her mother's battered body in an upstairs bedroom. At the time, police wouldn't say how she was killed, only that she struggled. Weeks later, we learned from a preliminary autopsy report that Chatman was beaten so badly in the head, it caused bleeding into her brain. She also had a 6-inch cut to the left side of her neck.

"I don't understand it. I really don't even want to know why they did it," said Stevenson.

Stevenson says she has no idea who could have done this to her mom.

"I have no idea, honestly. I don't. I spend nights, days thinking, trying figure out. I have visuals of what happened and I cannot think of one person," said Stevenson.

There is another thing Stevenson says she thinks of everyday. If neighbors heard her mom screaming, why didn't anyone call for help?

"Now my momma is dead because people don't want to talk or people, it's none of my business," said Stevenson.

A thought that's echoed by neighbors in the community.

"I feel like somebody should have heard it and you know and tried to do something about it," said neighbor Willena Daniels.
