Chiang Mai Sleeper Train — Must Know Tips before booking your tickets to or from Bangkok!

Описание: Our family just got back from visiting Chiang Mai in Thailand, and one of the most incredible experiences was riding the Bangkok to Chiang Mai Overnight Sleeper Train.

Here’s 5 Must Know Tips before booking your tickets on the Bangkok to Chiang Mai Overnight Sleeper Train:

1. FIRST CLASS BERTH: The first class bunks sell out within minutes of posting. Bummer!

Since they are usually bought up by travel agents, then it’s best to buy those through a travel agent in Thailand.

Also note, the 1st Class berths only have 2 bunks in each room and a private sink. A bathroom with shower is in the hallway, but is shared with another berth.

If you have a toddler or small child, they could easily share the lower bunk with you. Just know that it is a very small room with very minimal floor space.

2. SECONDS CLASS BERTH: Our family of 7 stayed in the 2nd Class berth, and this worked out great for us!

Do NOT buy only lower bunks or you will be sitting with strangers for the first 2 hours and last 2 hours of the train ride.

Our family bought tickets for Train 9, Car 9, Bunks 8-12. These were perfect!

Train 9 is the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

Car 9 is just 1 car away from the Dining Car 7, which we really enjoyed hanging out in.

With Bunks 1-4 and 29-32 being right next to the automatic door that leads to the bathrooms, bunks 8-12 were great. Not only do those doors open constantly all night long, which means it loses the a/c plus there is an odor lingering in from the bathrooms (ekkk).

3. THIRD CLASS BERTH: This part of the train is open air (meaning no A/C), and it is mostly wooden seats to sit on for the entire 12 hour journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

4. The sleeper train does sell food on board, but we did not enjoy it. Plus, it was pricey. But the snacks on board were pretty good — fresh cut watermelon, hot chocolate, and French fries.

5. Be sure to arrive on time because the train does depart on time! We nearly missed boarding because we were too slow in buying Dunkin Donuts in the train concourse.
