Even with busy rail lines like Norfolk Southern's Rathole and CSX's mainlines through Nashville nearby, something about the Corbin area keeps me coming back almost every time I take a railfanning day. Sure, it's not as busy as "the competition," but its old-school feel and beautiful scenery easily set it apart from almost any other rail line on the east coast. I suppose it's a case of "quality over quantity."
On October 15th, 2016, I set out for northern TN and southeastern KY to shoot trains in fall color on CSX's former L&N lines radiating from Corbin. Both the KD and the CC Subdivisions put on good shows in terms of trains and scenery. We think you'll agree. Enjoy!
