Astana is the symbol of the modern Kazakhstan, built in the past 18 years. This is because in 1997, the Kazakh president decided to move here the capital from Almaty.
The buildings in Astana are laden with symbols. From the Bayterek tower, the tree of life which stands for the development of Kazakhstan, to Khan Shatyr, which looks like a giant yurt blowing in the wind.
Close to Astana, in Karaganda is the Romanian community, that preserves the traditional folk customs. In the 40’s tens of thousands of Romanians were deported to these areas
This was the northernmost point of the journey and another 600 km wait to be travelled in the middle of the steppe, back to Almaty.
