It is a song of devotion in praise of a deity. Most of the Kavutuvams are dedicated to a particular deity and this piece is about the fierce avatar of Lord Vishnu, one who incarnated in the form of part lion and part man to destroy the evil and restore Dharma. The dancer will depict the story Hiranyakashyapu’s samharam.
When Prahaladan, a 5 year old young boy who had utmost bhakthi in Lord Vishnu believed that he resided in everything in this world, his demon father,Hiranyakashyapu was enraged with anger and jealousy. He told his son “ that no man or no animal can kill him and that he was invincible” but upon hearing that lord Vishnu resided in everything,he refused to believe prahaladan, broke the pillar only to find the magnanimous Narasimha, half man and half lion avataram of lord Vishnu to chase and tear Hiranyakashipu's stomach with his claws and eventually kill him. This paramathma came to prove the purity of Prahaladhan’s bhakthi and prove Hiranyakashapu wrong.
The kauthvam starts with a slokam taken from the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha karavalamba stotram written by Sri Adishankarar, then the lyrics that followed composed by Vidhwan ji Gurumoorthy and musical composition by Sri Balasubramanya sharma.
Set to raagamalika in khanda chaapu thaalam.
