Footage of Bx99 and M15 Local buses on the Upper East Side. Due to the overnight NYC Subway Shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, additional bus service is being provided. The M15 bus was enhanced to operate every 15 minutes during the overnight hours as part of the original enhanced network on May 6th. The Bx99 bus was created later on to transport people between The Bronx and Manhattan, starting August 5th.
Bx99 buses operate between from Woodlawn to Hudson Square (buses are signed "BX99 WEST VILLAGE"), operated by West Farms Depot. In The Bronx, the bus travels via Jerome Avenue and Grand Concourse. In Manhattan, the bus travels via 1st/2nd Avenues, 57th Street, 10th/11th Avenues, and Hudson/Varick Streets. Service on this route began August 5th. This route operates on a similar path to the (4) and (D) Trains in The Bronx, and on a route path similar to the (Q) Train in the Upper East Side and Midtown.
At the start of shooting videos, Bx99 buses used the 40 foot bus fleet (XN40, C40LF, XD40), after originally using articulated buses (XN60, LFSA). However, a recent rapid increase in ridership caused the route to become an artic route again as of early September.
The M15 local operates between East Harlem and South Ferry, via 1st/2nd Avenues and Water Street. During overnight hours, the "standard" trips, or those trips existing on the regular overnight schedule, are covered by Tuskegee Airmen Depot. However, the additional trips (as a result of the enhanced schedule) are covered by Quill Depot. In almost every instance, LFSAs in the SBS scheme are used on those additional trips. On occasion, an SBS XD60 may pop up.
