In John Chapter 13, the public ministry of Jesus ends, and His private instruction to His disciples begins. The shadow of the Cross looms large, but Jesus starts the evening with a shocking act of humility. The King of Glory wraps a towel around His waist and washes the dusty feet of His disciples—even the feet of the one who would betray Him.

The tension in the Upper Room rises as Jesus becomes troubled in spirit and testifies: "One of you will betray me." In a dramatic moment, He dips a piece of bread and gives it to Judas Iscariot. Satan enters him, and he flees into the darkness.

With the traitor gone, Jesus gives His final marching orders: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you."
