Описание: This time on sailing SV CUBA, we escape the heat and dive into the crystal-clear waters around Spartia Beach in Kefalonia, get sporty on our paddleboards, and find a mysterious, uninhabited island.

It’s early morning and already over 36 degrees Celsius, the water around our sailboat looks like a swimming pool and since we arrived in the dark after a sail down the east coast of Kefalonia once again, we had not seen our new neighborhood in the daylight. This coastline of the Ionian Islands is a perfect place to put up the mainsail and genoa and just glide along and see the sunshine reflecting off the hull of the boat. Although we only saw a few other sailors on our journey from the north of Greece, this area is considered one of the best places to cruise and sail during the hot summer months in Greece.

We put our snorkelling gear on and check out what’s happening below the surface of the azure waters. Kefalonia is a place with many natural freshwater springs and the water near the coast is therefore brackish and can have very different temperatures from one moment to the next.

The next day we decide to put our inflatable paddleboards to good use and explore the coast above the surface. Spartia has a stunning coastline with steep cliffs and rugged rocks, perfect for some stand-up paddling.

Soon we notice a lone rocky island in the distance that evokes our curiosity. We swap the boards for the dinghy, to check out the mysterious rock island. From afar we can already make out an impressive stone stairway on this barren isle. What might be found at the end of the stairs, we don’t know. But we surely did not stop to get some answers and took you along for the adventure.

We are Enrique (Kiki) from Cuba and Sarah (Salsa) from Germany on a mission to sail around the world. We have almost no sailing experience, but are determined to circumnavigate & share our adventures with you. Join us on our first stop, when we explore the abandoned bunkers of Albania.
