Naomi Jones is a Sophomore Biology major in the Randall Research Scholars Program (RRSP). Their research project presentation, "The Potential Role of AI in Supporting Systematic Literature Reviews," was completed under the advisement of Theresa Welbourne from the Alabama Entrepreneurship Institute Department.
Project Description:
This project aimed to conduct a systematic literature review to identify gaps between academic and practitioner research on Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). It examined recent scholarly publications and compared their depth, scope, and focus with non-academic practitioner materials. At the same time, the project explored the use of artificial intelligence as a research support tool. This included evaluating existing and newly developing AI systems, assessing their ability to assist throughout the systematic literature review process, and considering the benefits and costs of developing a customized large language model tailored to a specific research project. The project also highlighted the potential for AI to streamline the early, time-intensive stages of literature review, enabling researchers to broaden the scope of their review and devote more time to deeper analysis and interpretation.
