Born in Puerto Rico on February 11, Dr. Julio Acevedo is the youngest of 7 siblings. He attended a music school in his middle and high school years where learned to play the trumpet, euphonium and tuba. He also participated in a theater group. As a young man, Julio learned to play the guitar and currently is taking piano lessons. He earned his BA in Drama Education from University of Puerto Rico, MBA in Business Administration from Turabo University, a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and EDD in Educational Leadership from Capella University.

Dr. Acevedo currently is the Bilingual Specialist at Lake Wales Charter Schools where he also served as the Human Resource and Transportation Director. He also served as K-12 IB/Dual Language Principal and Chief of Staff in Tampa. Dr. Acevedo has previously worked as a middle school teacher (2005-2006), kindergarten teacher (2006-2008), Spanish teacher (2008-2011), third grade teacher (2011-2012) and Migrant Program and ELL Program Coordinator (2012-2018). Dr. Acevedo had been invited to several national conferences to speak about best practices and student’s accommodations and services. Dr. Acevedo was awarded with the Game Changer Award, and received the District Distinction Award for his initiative called Conexion Hispana, both awarded in 2015.

Dr. Acevedo has two music albums; the first album is a collection of Latin Music with his family band known as “Evolucion” (2000) and the second is a collection of his own songs called “In Love” (2018). He has performed in multiple plays, TV commercials and shows. In addition, Dr. Acevedo has directed 3 plays. He’s married to Caroline Acevedo; and they have two children, Julio A. Acevedo and Ariadna S. Acevedo.
