Romuald Hazoumé sticks out the tongue to the cliches on African traditions and deals with the negative consequences of colonization. For example, his series of masks currently presented at the Fondation plays with the stereotypes on Africa, skillfully turning attention to the western refuse that floods the continent’s streets.
With the masks, as for his artwork "Exit Ball" (2008), Hazoumé transforms the simpliest material into a megaphone broadcasting major messages : as Marcel Duchamp, magician Hazoume metamorphoses a sad everyday object into a piece of art.
