Skaftafell Iceland 🇮🇸 Get a closer look at the biggest glacier in Europe

Описание: Skaftafell is located in Vatnajökull National Park in the South East of Iceland. Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Europe. Just off the Ring Road in the southeast of the country, it takes approximately four hours to reach Skaftafell from Reykjavík.

Svartifoss (the waterfall) is spectacular, as the columns are in hexagonal shapes, which formed in the lava. It is actually a small version of Stuðlagil. Stuðlagil is a ravine in Jökuldalur in the municipality of Múlaþing, in the Eastern Region of Iceland. It is known for its columnar basalt rock formations and the blue-green water that runs through it.

You will see glaciers when driving on the ring road, but it looks far far away, and difficult to access. However, in Skaftafell, the glacier is just right in front of you. Only an icy river in between. It is just amazing.

It is slightly warmer hiking to the waterfall, but freezing cold towards the glacier. So camping here must be a good option, at least you save the parking fee lol.
