RUH4-Safer and low-barrier access to services in encampments: insights about health and safety perspectives to improve service delivery.
This session explores two innovative, practical approaches to supporting individuals living in encampments and experiencing unsheltered homelessness. LOFT Community Services will share its low-barrier, person-centered model that delivers integrated mental health, housing, and healthcare support across shelters, encampments, hospitals, and public spaces. Peel Region staff will present their encampment policy and joint protocols developed with cross-sector partners, offering a blueprint for municipalities to implement coordinated, risk-informed responses. Together, these presentations highlight how outreach, service integration, and inter-agency collaboration can improve safety, enhance access to care, and support long-term housing outcomes.
