In this episode, we tackle two important projects that move our home and land forward in a big way.
First, we build our very first stone retaining wall, re-using stone from an old bread oven that once stood here. It’s slow, hands-on work, but incredibly satisfying — giving new purpose to old materials and shaping the land in a way that feels both practical and timeless.
Alongside that, we make a start on transforming an old basement room into a proper workshop. This space will become somewhere to store tools, organise materials, and eventually build things like windows and shutters for the house. Right now it’s far from finished, but clearing it out and beginning the process feels like a major step toward working more efficiently on future projects.
This episode is all about laying foundations — building useful structures, reclaiming forgotten spaces, and slowly turning this place into a functional, working home.
If you enjoy renovation projects, traditional building techniques, re-using materials, or watching spaces evolve over time, we hope you enjoy this one.

We're Amy and Kieran, we're turning our abandoned house with half an acre of hill and forest into a homestead where we can try to become as self sufficient as possible by growing our own food, renovating our own house (DIY style!) and living life on our terms
We have zero experience with home renovations, and this one needs some renovating.
So follow along as we gain all the DIY skills and try to turn this abandoned house into the home we never thought we could own.
