Poor work performance can be a serious issue. This video discusses how to dismiss/discipline an employee for poor work performance.
There are only 3 ways to dismiss an employee in South Africa:
Misconduct
Incapacity
Retrenchment
It is important to note that poor work performance in a form of incapacity because an employee can not perform their duties and responsibilities to their expected standard.
Steps to dismiss an employee for poor work performance:
Step 1: Identify causes of poor work performance
Step 2: Notify the employee of the meeting
Step 3: Give the employee a reasonable time to improve
Step 4: Give the employee regular feedback on their performance
Step 5: Employer must document this process
Dismissal should be the last resort
