Hello viewers, I'm Dr. Revathi Ramaswamy from Apollo Hospital, Secunderabad. We all have come across fibroids in us, in our friends, in our relatives. What is a fibroid? A fibroid is mostly a very innocent growth which comes from the wall of the uterus or the muscle of the uterus. Are all fibroids dangerous? No. Are all of them harmful? No. Many fibroids stay simple and quiet for years. Fibroids come in various sizes, in various locations, in various shapes. Those fibroids which are inside the uterine cavity can lead to lot of bleeding, can lead to infertility, can lead to repeated abortions. These can be tackled by hystroscopy and removal. Some fibroids which are there in the wall of the uterus can grow in size, can also cause bleeding problems. They can press on the neighboring structures and cause pressure symptoms. and that is when we think of removing them. They can be removed by laparoscopy easily. Some of them, the laparoscopic surgery needs advanced uh skills because once we remove the fibroid from the uterus, the uterus has to be stitched very well so that it can perform its future functions of child wearing. Sometimes when it is too big, we need to cut open the layers of the abdomen and remove the fibro. Removal of a fibroid is a very good alternative to removal of the uterus in the younger age group. So don't get scared if you have a fibroid. Small fibroids don't matter at all. Many of them stay silent and they don't trouble a woman at all. So not every fibroid need treatment. Not every fibroid needs surgery. There are medications for some fibroids. There are certain other alternative procedures for fibroid which are much under research. But right now the most promising is surgical removal of the fibroid. Thank you friends. "
