Alright, we have now made it to the Burgh split of Blaze Black 2 Redux. In this split, we get access to 2 new encounters in Aron and Wormadam Trash. On top of that, we get some key evolutions in Lairon and Lucario, both of which I’ve been looking forward to using for a while now. But let’s take a look at the major trainers that we’ll be facing with what we have shall we?
So for the Burgh split, we will be facing three major trainers in Brycen, Wattson, and Burgh. Brycen is the easiest of the bunch. Not only does he have a team of 4, we also have a type advantage against him. Metang easily 1v1’s the lead Snover, Pawniard can handle Cryogonal, and Magnemite can finish off everything else.
Wattson is where things start to become difficult. We have to face a team full of high BST Pokémon while we only have two fully evolved Pokémon. Our strategy for this battle is to lead with Wormadam-Trash which is our best check to Jolteon. This is excellent since Wormadam can go for Struggle Bug on whatever comes in. Since every Pokémon is a special attacker, it will always work to our advantage. This allows Wormadam to deal significant damage to the incoming Volbeat before going down to Mystical Fire. From there, Lairon can finish off Volbeat with Rock Throw before going down to a couple of Volt Switches. All the pivoting did place us in a position where Lucario could sweep a good chunk of Wattson’s team until Manectric entered the field. Our response is to get Magnemite in which can live a hit thanks to Sturdy and paralyze Manectric to make it easier to handle. This allows Metang to deal some damage to Manectric.. I mean Jolteon (this was due to a Volt Switch pivot). Not worry though, Lucario can finish off what is left of Wattson to allow us to beat him on our first try, albeit with the side effect of Lucario overlevelling a bit. Oh well.
After defeating Wattson, we have to face gym leader Burgh. Burgh is quite a challenge since his battle is a double battle and his team has solid coverage against Steel types. Our leads for this are Wormadam and Magnemite who both learn Electric-type moves which are fantastic into Burgh’s team. After Magnemite goes down, Lairon can come in which can take hits rather well. It can even tank moves such as Revenge and Brick Break thanks to having Filter as an ability, incredible physical defense, and Eviolite as a held item. This does allow it to take out Masquerain and Vespiquen with Rock Throw. Metang is also really good here for dealing damage against Burgh’s Heracross. Once Heracross goes down, we target Leavanny before taking out the remaining Escavalier with what’s left of our team. This allows us to get our third badge on our second attempt.
Looking back on it, the Burgh split wasn’t too bad. We were limited on resources but we did get enough resources to overcome the opposition. Getting Lairon was especially helpful for Burgh which was possible thanks to it being changed to evolve earlier. We still have a lot of difficult challenges to overcome however. In the next episode, we will have to face Flannery who’s no doubt going to be awful due to our type disadvantage. But this could end up like Brawly where I find a strategy that wins us the battle without issue. We’ll see.
