Solna Centrum is a shopping center located in the district Skytteholm between the districts Hagalund, Råsunda and Huvudsta within Solna municipality, Stockholm county. It is one of the Stockholm region's largest centers with more than 95 shops and 22 restaurants. The glazing was opened in 1989 and an extensive renovation of the facility 2010–2013.
The center is located about five kilometers northwest of Stockholm city adjacent to the metro's blue line. The facility is owned by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.
The construction of Solna Centrum began in 1960 and it was inaugurated on September 18, 1965. It was at that time one of the region's most modern centers. The architect Sture Frölén had been commissioned both to draw the plan and to design all the buildings in the center, both the commercial and the public ones. [1] Another important year is 1975 when HM King Carl XVI Gustaf on 21 August inaugurated the metro and bus terminal adjacent to the city center.
In 1989, Solna Centrum was renovated and became an indoor center and becomes one of the first in a long line of shopping centers in the Stockholm region. The main architect was Ivar Krepp, the artistic decoration was done by Bo Ahlsén and Hans Lindström. Here, the proximity to the culture in Filmstaden can be seen, among other things, with the Hollywood Stairs with depicted classic and immortal movie stars. With its 100 shops and service points as well as about 20 eateries, Solna Centrum was named the shopping center of the year both in 1990 and 1993.
In August 2001, the new covered and expanded Hotellgatan was inaugurated by the then chairman of the municipal board, Anders Gustâv, and Rodamco Sweden's CEO Lars Söderblom. On 15 February 2002, Solna Centrum was named the Shopping Center of the Year by the Retail Awards. At the end of October 2005, Guldhyttan ceased operations and thus the last store that was part of Solna Centrum's inauguration disappeared. During the winter of 2010, an extensive renovation of Solna Centrum was started to expand the retail space, modernize the interior and to increase accessibility by installing escalators. The renovation was completed in November 2011. [2]
The metro's blue line towards Akalla has a station nearby. There are also commuter trains to Solna station which is about 1 km from Solna Centrum; from there also goes bus 176, 177 or 509, or tram to Solna Centrum Norra. There are also more bus lines between Odenplan and Solna Centrum's entrances from Solnavägen and Solna City Hall right next to the center. On the Tvärbanan, trams run from Alvik to Solna station with a stop at Solna Centrum.
