Описание: Today I want to talk about shortness of breath while podcasting and how you can fix this problem.

In the past few weeks, I have had a number of emails asking me how to not sound as though they are not running short on breath when they are talking in the microphone. Shortness of breath is really all about regulating a few physical things, but it’s more mental when you think about it.

When you feel there is shortness of breath in your podcast delivery, it’s important that you focus on practicing the first technique over and over and over. Regulating how much you are putting into the delivery of your presentation is a key factor in preparing yourself physically and mentally. Ultimately, shortness of breath is really a mental exercise that you will perfect over time as you get used to podcasting over and over.

The first tip I want you to take with you is using your diaphragm. It’s that part that is just below the rib cage where you can hold your breath, regulate how much breath comes out of your mouth and regulate how long you can hold a thought on one breath of air.

But the problem most podcasters feel they need to fix is that long deep breath they take after they finish a thought. This is when I move from the physical to the mental part of the video.

Shortness of breath typically has to deal with the pacing of your thoughts. Our thoughts run wild when we are on the microphone and if we don’t organize our thoughts, we can find ourselves on these rants that leave us short of breath. That’s why I ask most of my clients that they write out bullet points of the main topics they wish to talk about.

Writing out bullet points is going to be one of the best tools you’ll ever use when you’re podcasting. It will help you navigate where you want the conversation to go but it will also make you conscious of where you want to take the conversation. Having a written and bulleted outline will help you in conjunction with the diaphragm technique of speaking and breathing.

But I also ask my clients to learn how to make a mental outline. Sometimes you will want to pop off script and talk about a topic that is even more in depth, but it’s written on your bulleted outline. This is a learned practice over time and you will get used to it.
