How to Propagate Fruit bushes from Cuttings. This text follows two students, Kesser and Steen, as they learn the practical and spiritual art of gardening under the guidance of a knowledgeable grandmother. The narrative combines hands-on advice for propagating fruit bush cuttings in pots with a deep exploration of lunar gardening cycles. It explains how the moon’s gravitational pull affects soil moisture and plant sap, dictating the best times for planting root crops versus leafy greens. The source also provides historical context, tracing these methods from ancient civilizations to the modern biodynamic theories of Rudolf Steiner. Finally, it highlights the scientific contributions of Maria Thun, who validated these rhythmic planting calendars through decades of controlled agricultural experiments.
Cuttings of Fruit Bushes
Last year, Kesser and Steen, the two boys from the Nature and Innovation class, made cuttings of fruit bushes, such as blackcurrants and currants. They first put them in slightly damp soil so that the cuttings could start to make root .. but during the winter it has rained and a lot of snow has accumulated in heaps where the small cuttings were. Now they are completely drowned, but they seem to be alive, although this situation is probably not entirely optimal.
Steen is eager to get an organic vegetable garden started at his own family's home, and therefore he has asked Kesser if they should soon plant the cuttings out in a kind of flower pot, where they will be better ..
The classifieds are full of good ideas about everything you need to remember to buy to be successful in your garden, but Oma's seaweed compost is free and works better. You can always mix it with a little sand or gravel if necessary.
First, the two boys need to find a flower pot and Steen has thought about putting a smaller one inside a larger one. That way they get several concentric “rings” close to the edge (the perimeter) where it is said that the root forms faster. Kesser thinks that they will probably see small roots when they take the cuttings up - but he doesn't want to discourage Steen, who decides for himself how he wants to do things in the new vegetable garden, at his own home.
