Описание: Inanna, often called the “Lady of Heaven,” was one of the most powerful and fascinating goddesses of ancient Sumerian religion. She was worshiped especially in the great city of Uruk, where her temple stood as a symbol of divine authority and sacred kingship. Inanna represented many aspects of life that seemed to stand in contrast with one another. She was the goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and desire, but at the same time she was also a fierce goddess of war and political power. Because of this dual nature, she became one of the most complex figures in Mesopotamian mythology. Kings often connected their rule to her favor, believing that victory in battle and the prosperity of their cities depended on the blessing of the Lady of Heaven. Her symbol, the eight-pointed star, was closely associated with the planet Venus, which appears both as the morning star and the evening star in the sky.
