Описание: The Spanish invasion of Mexico began in 1519 when the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés landed on the Gulf Coast with a small expedition of soldiers, sailors, and horses. At first glance, the Spanish force seemed far too small to challenge the powerful Aztec Empire, one of the most advanced and dominant civilizations in Mesoamerica. Yet Cortés quickly realized that the Aztecs ruled over many subject peoples who resented their authority. By forming alliances with rival city-states such as the Tlaxcalans, the Spanish transformed their small expedition into a powerful coalition army. As they marched inland toward the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, they encountered complex political rivalries, unfamiliar landscapes, and a civilization rich in culture, architecture, and religious traditions.
