Описание: As COVID-19 cases increase across Canada, testing centres are beginning to see long lines and delays in getting results. On Tuesday, Canada's chief medical officer of health Dr. Theresa Tam and deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo held a briefing regarding the ongoing efforts to combat COVID-19. During the briefing, Tam spoke about the delays and said that they are looking into ways to “augment” current methods of testing for COVID-19, but they need to continue monitoring to see how effective and safe it is, as well as how long it takes for results to be received. She added that they are also looking at newer approaches that may be “coming up.”

Tam also addressed the increase in virus cases over the past several weeks among younger age groups, saying they were examining ways to better reach younger people as COVID-19 cases rise, including through social media and even gaming companies. She said it needs to be “all hands on deck” to provide messaging to different age groups in a better way.

Canada's top doctor also responded to a question regarding Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet and his caucus having to isolate after a staffer tested positive, saying while she could not comment specifically on the case, she reminded reporters that the quarantine period for COVID-19 is 14 days.

Both Tam and Njoo also responded to questions about whether they had faced any direct threats over their roles as health officers, amid reports health officials in various U.S. states have had to leave their jobs, and in Australia, one had to be put under police guard. Tam said it was a really tough job and there will be people not happy “with what you’re doing,” but did not say if she’s faced any threatening language or action. She and Njoo said they work with the public’s best interest at heart, and work to “safeguard the health” of Canadians.
