How to Control Stem Rot disease of Berseem (Egyptian Clover) | Crop Reformer

Cultivation time of Egyptian clover or Berseem (Trifolium alexandrinum) is very common in most of the villages of irrigated Punjab. Early sowing of berseem not only results in poor germination due to high temperature but weed (Itsit-Trianthema portulacastrum) problem sometimes may leads to utter failure of crop. Recent rainfalls of extraordinary monsoon have lowered the temperature earlier than previous years. In this video, under the light of prevailing climatic conditions, we have advised the farmers of north Punjab to start its planting after 20th of September, farmers of central Punjab after 1st October and in south Punjab after 10 of October. It is very risky to plant this crop so earlier than mid of September in central and southern Punjab.
Berseem is an important fodder crop of irrigated Punjab and it is known as queen of the fodders. In this video, we have suggested four best performing varieties of Berseem. Anmol-2011 and Punjab Berseem-2019 are considered as the best fodder producing varieties of Punjab. They continue to produce fodder until the month of June. Seed of these varieties is often short and small farmers grow Egyptian variety Maskavi or Ghora Barseem.
Production of fodders is badly affected by frost during winter season. If suitable measures are not taken in time, then there is a chance of yield depression. Growth and health of plants may touch the minimum level. Production technology of fodders consist of remedial steps to control this loss efficiently and effectively. Amino acids and other nutrients, supplements can be used to increase the growth rate of berseem and to minimize the loss caused by frost.
We can achieve more cuttings of berseem by using these fertilzers. Fertilizers include nutraful dap fertilizer of simple dap fertilizer (diammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate fertilizer) at the sowing time. In this video, it has also been suggested to use 5kg of potassium poly sulphide with each irrigation. It will not only increase the production rate but also make the berseem crop more resistant to diseases. Sulphur content of this fertilizer improves the growth and health of the crop. Sulphur alone can also be used which is available of different companies like stulin (swat agro) and kumulus (fmc) etc. Price of phosphetic fertilizers is increasing day by day. We need to use these fertilizers efficiently to gain maximum benefit from them.
