After months of stormy conditions and heavy rain the ground was completely waterlogged, and most small streams and rivers could not cope with the amount of water flowing into them. The River Trent was on its limit and had burst its banks at the usual locations.
In this video watch drivers as they contemplate driving through flood water on a country road near Fiskerton. The flood water was only 4 inches deep and the local flood wardens had decided that there was no need to close the road to traffic.
