For the past year, I've been adding another minute to my pumpfoil record every six weeks. But since I finally broke my 10-minute record, I've tried to beat it four times and haven't been able to.
In one attempt, I had a problem with the start that drained my energy. • Freefoiling Problem - Climbing with a foil
In another, after six minutes, the screws on my Gong XXL V2 came loose, and with the foil slack, I lost my balance.
But in the other two attempts, I fell due to leg fatigue.
In two of these attempts, I even used a 140cm² Veloce stabilizer, smaller than my usual 175cm². But despite having less drag, I think my back leg gets more tired with it because it has to work harder to maintain balance.
I think the arrival of colder weather, with its colder water, thicker wetsuit, and heavier neoprene helmet and booties, might have something to do with it.
But above all, I think the wind plays a role. All my recent attempts were either in calm conditions or with a light crosswind, whereas during my 10-minute record, I had about 5 knots of wind pushing me from behind. I've found that even a slight breeze, whether at your back or with you, makes a big difference when pumpfoiling.
I'll try again with a bit of a tailwind to see if I improve, but I'm also thinking I've reached my limit with this foil and maybe I need a more advanced one. What do you think?
