When and How to Use a Heat Mat for Seed Starting (Tomato, Pepper & Eggplant)

Описание: In this episode of Vibe Gardening: Informed Edition, we continue the Seed Starting series by learning how and when to use a heat mat for germination.

If your indoor space sits around 60–70°F (like my basement), warm-season crops such as tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers may germinate slowly... or inconsistently. A heat mat can help wake seeds up by increasing soil temperature to their ideal germination range.

In this video, we cover:
When you actually need a heat mat
Which crops benefit from it (and which do not)
Why soil temperature matters more than air temperature
When to remove seedlings from the mat
Traditional soil tray setup
Experimental vermiculite-on-heat-mat method

We’re testing two approaches:
1. Standard soil tray over heat mat
2. Vermiculite germination directly over a temperature-controlled mat

Heat mats are a short-term germination tool. Once cotyledons appear, remove seedlings immediately to prevent legginess and overheating.
