See my play along video to practice in 4 positions on the whistle with me: • Blues Play-along for tin whistle on D Gene...
I see the tin whistle as working well in 4 positions. Practicing riffs in these 4 positions gets you really comfortable with playing blues in any of those 4 positions, making you super cool at any jam. Bring a few different keys of whistle and you can cover almost any key.
UPDATE: I've realised that in later videos I do number the positions differently. Sorry for that change. I'm afraid I do prefer the new numbering system, which is simpler, rather than the one I use in this video, but the principle of thinking in "positions" is still the same.
WHISTLE POSITIONS - new numbering system (not the one in this video). The ones in capitals are the best for blues and are the 4 positions I talk about in the video.
1ST = D
2ND = Em
3rd = F#m (don't use)
4TH = G
5TH = A
6th = Bm (rarely use)
This channel is all about playing blues and blues based styles on the tin whistle / penny whistle. It's my firm belief that the whistle has been overlooked as blues instrument and it's time to make that right! Subscribe to this channel for more performances and tuition videos.
