The Figure Four Stretch is a simple and effective mobility exercise we use at Good Vibes Physio to stretch the glutes and outer hip muscles, reduce hip stiffness, and improve comfort with sitting, squatting, and daily movement.
If your hips feel tight, restricted, or you feel tension deep in the glutes or lower back, this stretch helps open up the area without forcing painful positions.
We use this exercise in physio and mobility programs to help people:

✅ Reduce hip and lower back stiffness
✅ Improve comfort in sitting and squatting
✅ Support better lower body movement
How to do it:
Lie on your back or sit upright and place one ankle over the opposite knee (making a “4” shape).
Gently pull the supporting leg in towards you until you feel a stretch in the hip or glute.
Hold the position while breathing and staying relaxed.
No forcing. No bouncing. Just let it open up.
