Juice runs down my hand before the first bite even settles. Smoke still hangs in the air.
The trail opens slowly to the Myakka River, light filtering through Spanish moss that sways in a steady breeze. Birds cross the water, and somewhere in the distance, a gator slips beneath the surface without a sound. The charcoal catches and breathes, flames licking the edges before settling into a steady glow. Fat hits iron and answers with a sharp sizzle, smoke lifting into the quiet sky. Nothing rushed. Just wind, water, and the rhythm of fire.
Cast iron smashburgers over charcoal with fingerling potatoes, garlic, and rosemary.
Cooking on the Road is about movement, fire, and the quiet space in between.
