Trinity vs Tawhid | Same God or Different?

Christianity and Islam are both monotheistic, but they define God in radically different ways.
Islam’s doctrine of tawhid describes God as absolutely one, solitary, without any Son or Spirit. The Qur’an explicitly denies God could have a Son: “He begets not, nor is He begotten” (Surah 112:3). This is why Muslims reject the deity of Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Christianity, however, teaches the Trinity: one God in three Persons. John 1:1 declares, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus, the eternal Word, is fully divine, yet distinct from the Father. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commands baptism into the one name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—showing unity of essence and distinction of Persons.
This is not polytheism. The Trinity affirms one essence, three Persons, coequal and coeternal. God is not solitary, but eternally relational—Father, Son, and Spirit united in love. That’s why the Bible says, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). Love requires relationship, and the Trinity reveals God’s eternal relational nature.
Why it matters: The God of the Bible and the God of the Qur’an are not the same. Christianity’s God is the Triune God—Father, Son, and Spirit—who entered history through the Son to save us. Islam’s Allah denies this.
