Coach Chris, the TRITAC Strength Coach, explains why the Landmine Press is one of the most effective exercises for martial artists. It’s not about how much you can lift; it’s about "proprioception"—your body's ability to coordinate complex movements to generate maximum velocity.
In this video, we break down the specific mechanics needed to turn a weightlifting move into a combat-ready strike:
1️⃣ Understanding Proprioception
Power is the result of proper body awareness. Chris explains how to connect the different parts of your body so they work in unison, ensuring that no energy is wasted during a strike.
2️⃣ Velocity vs. Static Strength
The Landmine Press should not be treated like a bench press. Instead of a slow push, focus on a "snapping motion." This build's the explosive fast-twitch response needed for a knockout punch.
3️⃣ The Fighting Setup
To make the exercise relevant, perform it from your actual fight stance. This reinforces the muscle memory of your striking base while building functional strength.

• Elbow to Hip: Start the movement with your elbow tucked tight to your side.
