This message centres on the account in John chapter 9, where Jesus passes by and sees a man who was blind from birth. The emphasis is not simply that Jesus passed by, but that He stopped. Throughout the Gospels, when Jesus stops and gives His attention to someone, a life-changing encounter follows. Salvation, like healing, is deeply personal. Jesus does not see crowds alone; He sees individuals.
The healing of the blind man was not an accident or a result of chance. Jesus made it clear that the man’s blindness was not caused by his own sin or his parents’ sin, but so that the works of God might be revealed. This teaches that suffering is not always punishment. God can use even the hardest circumstances to display His grace and glory.
Jesus declares Himself to be the Light of the world, showing that true sight is more than physical vision. Without Him, people may see outwardly but remain spiritually blind. When Jesus opens someone’s eyes, the change is real and lasting. The man who was healed did not rely on theology or argument; he simply testified to what had happened to him: once he was blind, and now he could see. A transformed life is one of the strongest witnesses to the power of Christ.
The man’s obedience also revealed his faith. Though still blind, he followed Jesus’ instruction to wash in the pool of Siloam, trusting before he understood. Faith often requires obedience first, with understanding following later. When the man received his sight, his life was not made easier. He faced questioning, rejection, and was eventually cast out by the religious authorities. Yet Jesus did not abandon him. Instead, Jesus sought him out, revealed Himself fully, and received his worship.
This encounter shows that true faith may bring opposition, but it also brings a deeper relationship with Christ. The Gospel itself remains simple and clear: salvation is not achieved through religion or good works, but through believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. When Jesus stops in a person’s life, eyes are opened, hearts are changed, and worship follows.
The message concludes with a reminder that Jesus is still passing by today. The same Saviour who stopped for the blind man continues to stop for those who trust Him. When He does, lives are transformed, faith is strengthened, and God is glorified.
