The first of a set of videos about a 15 month cruise in 1976/77 in a 36ft yacht from North Queensland through Melanesia. We visited Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tikopia, Fiji, New Caledonia and back to NQ across the Coral sea via the Chesterfield Reefs.
This video covers our departure from Cairns in North Queensland, Australia crossing to the eastern tip of Papua New Guinea mainland and the entry point on Samarai Island. Then cruising through various islands up to Kaibola in the Trobriand Islands.
A cruising guide with some 50 year old comments about passages and anchorages as well as many interesting photos and videos of local people and places.
Remember that any video sections are digitised from 50 year old super 8 film. Photos are digitised from 50 year old 35mm slides.
