There is good news for private sector salaried employees and pensioners. The Central Government is reportedly considering a proposal to increase the minimum EPFO pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS).

Currently, EPFO members receive a minimum monthly pension of just ₹1,000, an amount that has not changed for years despite rising inflation. Now, the government is reviewing a proposal to raise this amount to ₹5,000 per month, which could significantly improve the financial condition of lakhs of retired employees.

The proposed pension hike will benefit EPFO-registered private employees, those who have completed at least 10 years of service, and existing pensioners receiving the minimum pension. However, the proposal has not yet received final government approval and may be discussed in the upcoming budget or social security reform meetings.

The government is also planning to strengthen digital services, making PF withdrawals, pension disbursement, and senior citizen services more efficient. EPFO members are advised to keep their service records updated and rely only on official government or EPFO announcements.
