Joshin Kokyū-hō is a Japanese breathing practice that calms the mind and brings us back into a felt sense of wholeness, clear, luminous, and expansive.
By gently guiding the breath and attention to the lower abdomen, the practice helps us to return to our true center, known in Japanese as the hara. From this center, energy naturally gathers, attention stabilizes, while awareness simultaneously opens and expands. This unified movement of concentration and expansion cultivates inner stability, clarity, and ease—rooted within the body, yet open, connected, and receptive to the wider field of experience.
Please remember that Joshin Kokyū-hō is a gentle breathing practice. Breathe smoothly and naturally, without force or strain. The breath should feel calm, comfortable, and at ease at all times. If at any point you begin to feel lightheaded, simply stop the exercise and return to natural breathing. With regular practice, your capacity will naturally deepen, allowing you to gradually extend the length of the practice over time.
This guided meditation is offered by Veronique Frede, Reiki Teacher.
