Liza Lehmann (1862-1918) was an English soprano and composer most well-known for her song cycles and art songs. After studying with the likes of Jenny Lind, she pursued a concert career for an extended period before settling into composing. She was the first president of the Society of Women Musicians as well as a professor at the Guildhall School of Music. Never just a composer, Lehmann wrote the lyrics for this short song cycle herself, basing the cycle around the thoughts and feelings of 'flappers', young Western women of the Roaring Twenties who came to symbolise the decade.
