The deadlift is one of the most important exercises for you to master in the gym.
It has several useful variations and many people get confused between them.
The two main variations you many come across are:
The Romanian Deadlift, which can be done
with no weight • Romanian Deadlift (RDL) Tutorial (no weight) (best for learning technique)
with dumbells • Dumbell RDL // Strength Exercises
or with a barbell (no video yet!)
And the conventional deadlift, which can be done with
A kettlebell • Conventional deadlift (with kettlebell)
A barbell • Barbell Deadlift (Conventional)
Many people get confused between these two variations when starting out, so here I explain the difference.
Most will start with the RDL and will progress onto a conventional deadlift, which is more complex and technical.
Unlike many other exercises, it requires quite a bit of effort to learn the technique when starting the exercise.
