We spent a long weekend exploring the beautiful Northland region, basing ourselves near Cable Bay. The weather was all over the place, but it didn’t stop us getting out and discovering some brilliant spots.
Our first walk took us to a completely secluded beach — one of those places that’s hard to find, tucked away with barely a soul around. Proper hidden-gem stuff.
The second was the Mahinepua Peninsula Track in the Mahinepua Peninsula Scenic Reserve. It’s a stunning coastal trail with rolling hills, sharp ridgelines, and views that look like they’ve been lifted straight out of a postcard. Even with the mixed weather, the colours and cliffs were unreal.
If you’re looking for ideas beyond Auckland, or planning a Northland road trip, these two walks are well worth adding to your list. Beaches, headlands, and a bit of adventure — perfect weekend material.
