We kicked off the day at the Aratiatia Dam, and honestly, it’s wild how fast everything changes. One minute it’s this calm, rocky riverbed, then the gates open and the whole place just explodes into life. You can literally feel the power of the water rushing through. Such a cool way to start the day.
From there we headed up to the top of Huka Falls to see it from above. The noise, the speed, the colour of the water — it hits you straight away. You’re standing there thinking, “How is that much water squeezing through that tiny gap?” It’s one of those spots where you end up filming way more than you plan to because it’s just so intense to watch.
Then we wrapped it up with the 80-minute scenic boat tour. Not the jet boat — the slower one that allows you to absorb all the scenary. As soon as we got close, the spray absolutely nailed us. Properly soaked. But the views were unreal, and being that close to the power of Huka Falls was the best part of the whole day. Taupō delivered!
