Derek Wilcox is a former world record holding powerlifter with a PhD in Sport Physiology and Performance from East Tennessee State University. In his career as a strength & conditioning professional he has coached professional athletes from a range of sports, supervised multiple university level S&C programs, and trained thousands of ordinary folks as well. He is currently a coach with Renaissance Periodization and has been so since 2014.

Derek recently sat down with my friend Dennis Arnold to have a conversation about the recent goings-on in the fitness community involving YouTube Fitness kingpin Athlean-X. Derek discusses the ethical and moral issues involved when a highly influential figure such as Jeff Cavaliere engages in willfully fraudulent behavior (i.e. using fake weights to bolster credibility as it pertains to strength training) for the sake of personal profit.

He also touches on some of the bad advice that has been doled out by Jeff Cavaliere over the years and how this advice has permeated its way through the industry - making its way back to Derek multiple times and forcing him to consistently correct these errors with clients on a micro-level. Now, with FakeWeightGate being the "straw that broke the camel's back," Derek felt it was his moral and professional obligation to begin speaking out against these transgressions on a macro-level as well, hence why he decided to do this video, and he ultimately leaves Athlean-X with a powerful and decisive message: stay in your lane, Jeff.
