Warm-up focus is the 2nd category in my Reformer Category System.
In this system, Warm-up exercises are those that flex the spine, rotate the spine and heat the body up like, Plies.
Just as important as heating the body is, warming-up the spine.
Articulating the spine in flexion and rotation prepares the body for the exercises to come. It takes our focus internally, due to the concentration required to correctly articulate the spine, and brings our attention to the body in preparation for class. The benefits of warming the spine up at the beginning of class are far reaching and greatly researched.
Heating the body at the beginning of class is also a well established practice across many movement modalities because of the physiological benefits of heat in the body. This heat can prevent injuries.
