Lasting the Upper onto the Shoe Last | Toe Tacking, Hammer Shaping & Adhesive Prep (Part 3)

In this third video of the series, the upper is finally lasted onto the shoe last, one of the most important stages in traditional shoemaking.

The process begins from the toe area.
The upper is carefully pulled over the last and positioned so the material begins to follow the exact shape of the last.

Once the toe is secured, the back of the upper is fixed to the last, stabilizing the shoe structure during the lasting process.

After the upper is fully aligned with the last, the excess lining material is trimmed using a knife to keep the interior clean and properly fitted.

Next, a row of nails is placed along the front area to temporarily secure the upper to the insole and maintain tension.

The entire surface is then hammered carefully.
Hammering helps the leather and lining settle tightly around the last, allowing the upper to take the precise form of the shoe.

Finally, adhesive is applied, preparing the shoe for the next construction stages.

This stage transforms the loose upper into the true three-dimensional shape of the shoe.
