Описание: The increasing advancement of wind turbine industry nowadays motivated researchers and engineers to improve the current wind turbine designs. Hence, a novel cross-axis-wind-turbine (CAWT) with omni-directional guide vane (ODGV) is proposed in this study. The ODGV is designed to deflect the oncoming wind from any directions in the horizontal plane towards the vertical direction in order to produce skewed wind. The CAWT consist of 3 vertical and 6 horizontal blades that interacts with skewed wind from ODGV to produce torque for power generation. The CAWT is expected to outperform the conventional vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) due to the additional torque induced from the interactions between horizontal blades and skewed wind from ODGV. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation is done by using the commercial software, ANSYS FLUENT to predict the performance of the proposed CAWT with ODGV. The CFD results show that the proposed CAWT achieve peak rotational speed earlier and has higher torque compared to a conventional VAWT. This means that the proposed CAWT will have good self-start and also higher power extraction capability compared to VAWT. This preliminary study show that the proposed CAWT is an alternative turbine design with great potential for wind turbine industry.
